A maintained DFInstagram alternative
Why Oxbow exists
Feurstagram was started in December 2025 by a DFInstagram user who wanted a distraction-free build that kept up with Instagram's frequent updates: patches anyone can read, and a process that can be re-run on every new Instagram release. Oxbow is a GPL-3.0 fork of Feurstagram: it keeps every block, follows upstream for each new Instagram version, and adds downloads, ghost mode and clean share links.
What carries over from DFInstagram
- The real Instagram app, not a website in a wrapper: notifications, stories and messaging behave normally.
- Choose what to hide: feed, Reels, Explore and more, each on its own switch.
- An APK you install yourself, outside the Play Store.
What Oxbow adds
| Feature | Oxbow |

| Blocking method | Network level: blocked content is never downloaded |
| Following-only feed | Yes, persistent |
| Hide bottom-bar icons | Yes, and swipes can't reach hidden tabs |
| Landing screen | Home, Search, Messages or Profile |
| Permanent lock | Yes, optional |
| Ads and telemetry | Blocked |
| Side-by-side install | Clone APK next to the official app |
| Build it yourself | Documented |
Switching from DFInstagram
- Pick a build. The standard APK uses Instagram's package name, like the official app. If Android refuses to install it over DFInstagram because the signatures differ, uninstall DFInstagram first, or use the Clone APK, which installs alongside it.
- Download the latest Oxbow APK from GitHub and install it.
- Log in to your Instagram account again.
- Set your blocks by long-pressing the Home tab. Feed, Reels, Explore and ads are already blocked by default.
